Excellent opportunity for a Facades Intern to join our New York office in 2020!

At BuroHappold, were passionate about great engineering. And always have been.

We are a holistic engineering practice, where engineers are more than just human calculators, theyre helpers in shaping solutions, making the world a better place to live in.

When it comes to your graduate career, dont opt for the obvious. Dont accept the average. Expect the best and work with the best.

We make the visionviable .

What is Facade Engineering?

The quality of the skin of your building is about much more than achieving the aesthetic vision, its about buildability, efficiency and long term sustainability.

What makes a facade function properly? Apart from the obvious, like weather resistance, airtightness and making sure it doesnt fall off the building, a big consideration is the energyimpact on the building itself. An efficient, buildable facade makes for a better building and we work constantly to provide more efficient skins.

A thoroughknowledge of the way in which facades are constructed means you can trust us with your project from concept design through to nuts and bolts. Whether this is for an intricate design such as for, Birmingham, or the grandeur of, Qatar with vertical glass facade systems more than 25 metres in height, we apply engineering rigour.

What sort of projects would I work on?

, China. The faade will curve round the building at a distance of three miles in total. Due for completion in 2018, the new terminal building will be the largest in the world. The strength of the collaboration between our engineers and the architect allowed us to take a highly creative approach to the brief, developing a design for Beijing New Airport that delivers added value to our client, and an iconic aviation facility for the city.

New York. We employed a number of innovative systems to deliver a facade that is both functional and elegant. These included a frameless glass fin system, and sculptural concrete slabs that are lightweight yet strong.

, USA. The facade utilizes a perforated Rheinzink skin in weathering blue-green to provide sun shading. Focusing on interactivity, the loft-like building features a number of glass walls and cut outs to allow students to see activities in other classrooms. By applying our expertise and experience to devise a number of innovative solutions in response to the unique situations posed by this project, BuroHappold will play an intrinsic part in realizing an iconic new Visual Arts Building for the University of Iowa.
